My question involves criminal law for the state of: Canada
I was just told that I had a police report filed against me for fraud.
It all started about a month ago after my family and I had a very poor experience/bad service at a restaurant. I emailed and complained about the bad service to the restaurant and the sister restaurant with a different name (i thought they were the same company so i emailed both), stating that I will probably never eat there again. Then both restaurants emailed me back and apologized, and told me that they will mail me a gift card to compensate. They asked me for my mailing address and said they would mail right away.
This was a month ago. I never got the gift cards so I emailed both restaurants again telling them I never received the gift cards. One of the restaurants wrote me back saying the gift cards probably got lost in the mail so I should come to the restaurant for pick up. They said to call the restaurant before coming so I called today, and they said that they had reported me to the police for fraud because:
-they had no evidence that we were there for dinner
-for sending the same email to two restaurants (their and their sister restaurant)
im so worried and scared. i have no receipts and no proof that we were there. will the police contact me? what should i do?
