My question involves a background check in the State of: Pennsylvania
I was charged with shoplifting in PA (currently living in VA), attended a class in order to get the record expunged, received notification from the court that it was expunged and still, after 15 years, worry it will come back to haunt me. I applied for a sales job with a financial company that works with banks (but is not a bank itself) and the hiring recruiter said they do a strict background check. An HR friend advised me to check "no" on the app because it is as if the crime never occurred. I have had several background checks for employment for major companies and have never had a problem. Because this potential employer works through banks and with the security of funds, I continue to worry that somehow the background check company will have access to this, like it would for law enforcement and/or government jobs (think FDIC). Can anyone help ASAP as I have received the offer letter but need to wait for the check to come back and I can't eat or sleep because I can't think of anything but this. Thank you!
