    Default Remedies for Wrongful Eviction

My question involves an eviction in the state of: California

I stayed with a so called friend in a spare room. He said I was welcomed as long as I needed to stay. However, out of the blue he started locking me out. keeping me away from my possesions. I had to call the sheriffs for assistance several times. Ultimatley this so called friend of mine locked me out. without notice. had my vehicles towed away. And gave my dog away and she was found dead 2 hours away from the home. He still refuses to give my property back to me. That is including my keys for the vehicles. I need to sue him now but for what grounds and what can I get for damages.

How long had you been living there? You can sue him to ask the court to order return of your property, as well as whatever damages you can prove.

Write down absolutely everything you can remember. Did you sign any kind of lease agreement?

Did you pay any kind of rent to this man? In cash, check? Something to prove you were, indeed, living there?

You will need everything you can in order to take him to court. Without proof that you were living there as a tenant of some sort, you may have to take him to small claims rather then suing him as a landlord

I stayed in his home for over 6 months. I did pay rent in trade in labour.
