First, I'm aware this forum is for U.S.-bound immigrants, however, I'm hoping someone has some basic knowledge concerning the Canadian system. I've been researching and looking into living in Canada for 15 years, and I feel this is the time to do it, even though I have the least amount of money to my name as ever (but I have more education, certifications and work experience than I did ten years ago).
I'm 36, single, no kids, BA degree, Red Cross certified and have all qualifications to be a live in caregiver. I'm also a personal trainer, lifeguard and emergency responder. When I first did my reading about Canadian residency and work permits it looked as if you basically needed to be a rocket scientist or brain surgeon to be considered. Now it appears they are looking for people able to help a nation with an aging population (caregivers, physical therapy aides, recreation leaders, senior exercise specialists, etc) and no longer does this require 12 years of school and a quarter million dollars to get in.
My hesitation is about who to trust, as each site says something a little different, and the ones wanting money I don't waste my time with. I need to know where to start - what is my first step now, since I have not applied for anything yet. I did the points calculation, and I qualify. Now what? I want this process to go as smoothly as possible so I don't end up unprepared.
Any advice? Please let me know!
