My question involves criminal law for the state of: New Jersey. I got caught for stealing a cheap pair of sunglasses at a JC Penney. They took me to the back and called the police. They arrested me and gave me a complaint-summons for court. I'm 18 and an adult but I live in New York and go to school in Jersey. I can't let my parents know what happened. Is JC Penney going to sue me? If they do, what will be the charges roughly? And what happens if I plead guilty? They have a lot of evidence so I think I have no shot at getting off, but how can I bargain for it not to go on my record? Please help me.
