My question involves a traffic accident in the State of: California

So a short while back I was lost in the hills near my home, and unfortunately I struck a parked vehicle, with nobody in the car. Even more unfortunate, I fled the scene.

My vehicle sustained substantial damage. While I am uncertain of the extent of damages to the other vehicle, I believe it to be less significant than the damages I incurred (it was a larger vehicle).

I felt very guilty for what I had done and admitted it to the police 5 days after the incident. I went to the station with my lawyer, and I made a statement. I also provided my registration and insurance information.

The police did not charge me, but said they would have to forward the case to the DA. I have never been pulled over, I have no criminal record, I came forward on my own.

The detective who was assigned my case said something along the lines that they would recommend the DA "review" as opposed to recommending the DA "pursue" (or something along these lines).

1) How likely is it that I end up being charged with a crime, and in what sort of time frame?

2) If I am charged, how will I receive the notice? Will an officer show up at my door, or will it be mailed to me?

3) If I am charged, will I have to go to court? Could the DA offer me (through my lawyer) some sort of deal before I have to show up, or do I have to show up first? Also, what are my chances at a civil compromise?

4) If charges are brought, what will likely be my consequences?

Thank you so much for your help.
