My question involves criminal law for the state of: California:
Last night, I was stopped from leaving my work by the night manager. He asked for my receit which I didn't have because I had been lifting it. The next morning, I went in to talk to my boss and confessed that I had tried to shoplift the bag of groceries. It was about $20 worth of products. I also confessed that I had been stealing from the store for over a year. My boss said that he knows and an investigation was underway for me. He told me that the store has lost over $25000 of stuff in the past year, and I contributed to that. I was caught on camera doing these deeds and I never denied that I didn't do them. I was told that coming forward before the police is involved will help my case. He also told me that one major thing I can do is sign a promissory npte stating how much I think I've stolen. I wrote down $2000 which is waaay too much, but I was scared because he told me thast if I underestimated, I could go straight to jail. I am 19 and this is my first offense and the first crime I've ever commited. I know that if they can prove that I stole $400 or more, they can charge me for a felony grand theft. I was told that paying the fee in a timeley manner will help my case, and at the moment the police have not been contacted. LP was investigating me and the rest of the employees. I would like to know exactly how deep in I am and if there is anything I can do to help myself more?
