My question involves juvenile law in the State of: Texas
My daughter (17) is a Sr. She's been skipping class/school and I have been summoned to Crout and asked to pay a fine of $500 e/day. Thing is, she lives with her father and I was blindsided by this when I received the summons via mail. To be fair, her father thought he could handle it w/out me getting involved (another story). TX says I am obligated to pay the fine(s) since she is a minor and it is our "responsibility to get her to school". Well, she get's to school, then turns around and walks out. Then TX says, since she ran away, she doesn't have to come home becuase "technically, she's an adult". So which is it? She agreed to go to school, but not live with either of us. But if she doesn't go to school, we are still responsible. Accordinig to the Police Dept. If I report her as a runaway, and withdraw her from school this "technically means we are no longer responsible, since she's 17". But she can't enroll on her own becuase she is still a "minor". This law is confusing and very "tricky". What is your advise?
