Exclamation Expired License Plate and Lost Title

My question involves vehicle registration or title in the state of: Texas or Ohio.

    [Sir,

    Regarding Renewal

Currently I am not in USA but I am returning on March First week to Dallas.
I own a car which was purchased and registered in Texas ( Dallas County ) in April 2008 . My Car title is lost.

The car license expired 1 year ago and the car is currently in St Louis in a storage facility.

I was working for a small duration in St louis and did not get a chance to come back to Texas before I left the country on November 2008 on an emergency and did not return since.

As and when I return , I will not be able to move or use the car with an expired license plate, I humbly request you to let me know the procedures for having the license plate renewed either in Texas (or Ohio where I will be working on a project for a small duration ) .

Is it possible to get a new title in Ohio.
If not if I get a certified copy of title from Texas, Will I be able to get new title and register the car license plate in Ohio. I also have an old Ohio License plate

    Thanks

    John

Your options are to get the registration renewed in Texas. You could have renewed it online if you hadn't waited for it to expire.
You may be able to do it by mail: http://www.txdmv.gov/vehicles/registration/register.htm
Otherwise you'll have to do so in person

Replacement title would be necessary to register in Ohio or most places. Information on how to get a replacement title by mail or in person:

Are you going to reside in Ohio? If so, you will need to apply to Texas to first obtain a duplicate title. Then you can take that to Ohio and apply for an Ohio title, insure the vehicle and apply for a registration (plates). You will have to present the vehicle (as noted below) before being allowed to transfer the title to Ohio.

    from the Ohio BMV website:

When you are converting or transferring title to a vehicle that was last titled in another state, the following is required:
The actual Certificate of Title; copies are not acceptable. If your out of state title reflects an open lien, proper evidence of its extinction or a copy of the security agreement or loan contract covering the vehicle is required. If your title is held by a lienholder, any title office can provide the necessary paperwork to request the original title.
Out of State Inspection Form Any vehicle last previously registered or titled in another state must have a physical inspection, before being titled in Ohio. This is NOT a safety inspection. The inspection of your vehicle will verify the year, make, body type, model, and manufacturer's serial number or vehicle identification number (VIN). All license agencies offer this service as well as many car dealerships. Call ahead and ask for the service department.
You will be given the completed inspection form. Please contact the clerk of the Courts Title Office as well as where you get your inspection completed, for fees involved.

    Hi,

Thankyou very much for the quick response.
However, I read from texas website that it may take a month to get a replacement title.

However my stay in Texas is very short. Is it possible that can I apply for title, when I am still out of the country.

    Thanks

    Johan

    Hi,
I found the following for getting a title replacement in Texas website.

    By Mail

    1. Complete a certified copy of title application.
    2. Enclose a copy of the owner's valid photo ID and $2 mail-in fee by check, cashier's check or money order (no cash accepted) payable to the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles. An agent of the owner or lienholder must also provide a letter of signature authority on original letterhead, a business card or a copy of the agent's employee ID.
    3. Mail the application to your vehicle titles and registration regional office.

I am not in USA now. How do I provide a signature authority on orignal letter head.

Kindly explain how to get through this

    Regards

    Johan

You don't need that if you are sending it in for yourself.
