My question involves criminal law for the state of: michigan
my 23 yr old daughter made the error in judgement of providing alcohol to a minor and was cited immediately at the party store by a policemen undercover in waiting. the young man recieved a minor in possession. in this college town it is obviously a common issue. she, nor i, can afford an attorney at this time. we wonder how she should plead, as she hopes only to not have a misdemeanor on her public record. she is waiting for acceptance to graduate studies in the mental health field and a criminal record would likely ruin her future. she realizes the mistake as a momentary lapse of judgement with potential grave consequences and is very humbled and remorseful. how should she plead if she goes to arraignment without an attorney, hoping for probation with the possibility of having the charge dropped? Or, should she hire one to hope for a lesser charge?
