My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: Missouri
Last September my 23 year old boy friend's parents kicked him out due to a disagreement over finances (they'd been using the money for his car payment for their own bills and he stopped paying them when his car got repossessed). His step father forced him to leave under threat of violence and told him he'd better bring the police back with him if he wanted to leave under his own power. We went to the apartments leasing office and got a copy of lease so we could prove he did live there and had the right to get his stuff the same day he cancelled their cell phones as all of them were under his name and they were refusing to pay for their share of the $400 bill.
We informed his LL that day of all this and asked what we needed to do to be taken off of the lease. They said they'd get back to us. When we called back a week later, they informed us they had no opt out clause and what was more his parents had vanished and left an awful mess behind. We told them they could track his step father down through his SSI as he recieves social security from the state for being disabled. It's now January and they've been ducking our phone calls ever since!
I don't know what else to do! Any advice would be welcome.![]()
