My question involves a child custody case from the State of: Missouri
When my daughter was born I did not put the bio father's name on the birth certificate nor did I give her his last name (she has mine). He was not around much for her first year- maybe 5-6times and has never helped financially. After my daughter was just over a year old we moved from Texas (where she was born and her father still resides) to Missouri. She is now 6 and he has made contact with some mutual friends saying he wants custody. What are his rights, if any? She doesn't know him to be her father (I am married now and her step-father is the only 'dad' she's known- this is not about possible step-parent adoption, that is a different matter...). I want to tell her about her bio father but haven't felt it to be the right time for her to understand the situation just yet.
I don't know that after 6.5yrs if he really will make an effort to establish paternity but in case he does I was just wondering what I can do. I don't know anything about him anymore and don't know if him being in her life would be good/bad (right now, I would eventually like her to have a relationship with her but only when she wants to).
And how would visitation work? Since shes of school age people have told me he would only be able to see her during the summer months or holidays but with her being homeschooled would that change any?
Thank you for your time.
