My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: IN

Here is my situation. I signed a lease agreement in Lafayette, IN from August 2010 - August 2011. Since then, I have transferred schools and now live in Oklahoma. I subleased my apartment from August 2010-December 2010. I had a sublease lined up for January 2011-May 2011. I got in contact with this person back in September/October, and again earlier this month. He had contacted the apartment complex stating that he would like to sublease from me, and they sent him the necessary paperwork. He then said that once he got to campus he would have them email me the paperwork to sign, scan and resend. However, when he got to campus, he decided that he no longer wanted to live in the apartment and is refusing to move in or pay rent. Nothing was signed by both of us, however, there was consideration on both parts and because I relied on his sublease I am now being forced to pay the rent at the apartment. I am just wondering what my options are. I am under the impression that I should be looking for someone else to sublease the apartment to and that once that is done, I may be able to sue for the months that no one was there? Thanks
