My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: California
We own a duplex where we live in the front and are currently renting the back unit on a lease. The current tenant wishes to renew the lease (which currently ends on the 14th of this month). They are very good tenants and we would like to extend (not sure of the correct terminology) the lease. My wife used to work for a property management firm and she understands that to properly renew the lease, the tenants must move all of their belongings out of the unit for a period of 24 hours so that we can inspect the unit and then provide them with a new lease. Is their a simplier way to extend their lease and still protect ourselves?
