Default 1040 NR - Standard Deduction

I am currently on H1 B Visa (and moved into US in Dec 2005 from India); So, I will be filing my 1040 NR for tax returns. Some of my friends say that Standard deduction is applicable even for Non-residents (and some say that it is applicable only for Students coming from India). Can you clarify which is correct ?

Are you a dual status taxpayer? According to the IRS instructions for a 1040-NR,
Quote Quoting Restrictions for Dual-Status Taxpayers
Standard deduction. You cannot take the standard deduction.
