To answer your question specifically AZ code 13-3003. It is a Class 2 misdemanor to open a sealed letter not addressed to you.
The courts recogonize that email, and instant messaging that requires a password to access are sealed letters due to the simple fact that not everyone can access them.
If you intentially captured the password that is a felony by the way. If you didn't and just "browsed" his account then it is a Class 2 misdemanor for reading it, and a second charge if you post it. Thats just on the criminal side. You could also face civil penalties for the invasion of privacy.
