Default What Does The USCIS Really Want Included When You File a I-485?

    Hello,

Happened aross this site, and seemed to be a very helpful discussion board for others. Not sure if the "non-imigrant" category is the right one or not, but have some Q's about if the INS really knows what they are doing... I read somewhere on the USCIS website regarding requiring biometric fingerprinting, that many U.S. embassy's abroad are being equipped to be able to do that right there. Yet, on the I-485 "requirments" which are very vauge at best, it lists sending in an additional $70 for biometrics fingerprinting.

My fiancee (now my wife), came over on a K1 fiancee visa. She said that at the U.S. Embassy, they took a biometric fingerprint of her two index fingers (exactly what the USCIS website says the biometric fingerprinting involves). Also, she went through a very thorough medical exam, including blood tests and other tests regarding diseases, and making sure she was current on needed vaccinations.

The U.S. Embassy clinic did not give her copies of all the tests etc (had to be surrendered at customs when entering the U.S., but was given a signed document DS-3025 labeled as U.S. Department of State Vaccination Documentation worsheet, which had the exact same vaccination documentation as the I-693 Vaccination supplemental form that seems to be required to be included when filing the I-485. Except for the form # and for a place for the civil surgeon’s signature vs. the place for the Dept of State authorized surgeon’s signature on the DS-3025, everything is exactly the same documentation. Does this DS-3025 satisfy the listed requirement for the vaccination suppliment for the I-485?

If they already did the biometric fingerprinting on her and the medical exam/testing, would these two things they are listing as being "required" be redundant and not valid for a K1 fiancee visa applicant applying for the I-485?

Also, Where does a person find the immigrant visa # that the web instructions indicate is needed for filing the I-485? Is that the K1 Fiancee Visa #?

    Appreciate any feedback,
    ee33

When the USCIS requires particular fees, they require the fees. I've not known them to care that the fees are duplicative, or relate to services provided on a prior occasion.

The non-immigrant visa number should appear in red on the visa stamp.

Question Re: Does the INS really know what they want included when filing a I-485?

Thanks for the reply. Sadly, still don't know what's going on about why or if in fact being subjected to redundant physicals/biometrics repeated times is the norm, i.e. an unavoidable reality, or just lack of clarity on the part of their website. (Their website even has a description about what the biometrics involves, and that more and more Embassies are being equipped to do that... So it does not makes sense to impose that redundancy (and cost) again, on a citizen...

I bet our country wouldn't be so badly in debt, if the gv chose to do things like private industry does (doing it right the first time and being subject to accountability. If not, after a few screw-ups, a business is "out" of business) But then it's not their money the're being careless with...

I have read numerous threads about how late, when to file, etc. etc the AOS I-485 after marriage. About the 'only' thing on the gv's website is a prompt to file as soon after marriage as possible, but many thread postings I have found on the net have commented about delayed flings, even up to the edge of the 180 days, and some even after the K1 visa expired, and no problems. Why can't the gv just list a timetable and deadlines like most in the edu or .com industry does, and make it easier on everyone including themselves?

Question I do have, is I ran across on their website what they call a Dallas "pilot" program that facilitates condensing and finalization of everything in one day for the filing of the I-485 AOS. Has anyone tried that? The region I live in, from what their vauge website indicates, if the redundant biometrics and then interview is in fact required at this region's headquarters, that would involve TWO 14 hour driving trips to New Orleans. When I started this "venture", the understanding was the fingerprinting was just a routine thing done at a person's local law enforcement station... Dallas, is only about 2.5hrs away... Am curious if anyone has taken them up on their "Pilot" program, and if so what they experienced.

    Thanks!
