Default Shoplifting in University Bookstore in Washington State

My question involves criminal law for the state of:

Hello guys, I am an 18 year old college student whos not a citizen that got caught shoplifting at UBS in U-district in washington state. I have stolen an item before and I have admitted that I have since they said they had me on tape. There were no police, but UW has its own PD so i think they contacted UW PD. they said they will charge me the original prices of two items and restitution of 200 for each incidents. I am just wondering if admitting to what I have done before can be a separate offense. SInce I didn't get caught but I admitted the previous crime. also, is it possible to get this off the record? I have 3.9 GPA in University of Washington and I was just not thinking properly when I committed two incidents.. please help me people.

The UW PD probably have police powers. Your statements to the bookstore employees about previous thefts probably won't amount to much, but please, when talking to law enforcement and the like, please keep your mouth shut. Your GPA doesn't mean squat. If you were truly smart you wouldn't be a thief.

So far, it's not on your record. If contacted by the police (even the university ones) keep quiet and get a lawyer.

Chances are you may be in trouble with the school if they have an honor code. Things done are hard to undo.

Yes, your admission to the previous crime could be the basis for a separate charge. That does not sound likely from the context.

The civil demand amounts are in line with the Wasington statute. You should probably pay them.

If you do not get criminally prosecuted, there is nothing to do in terms of getting this off your record.

If you do get criminally prosecuted, retain a lawyer. If you cannot afford one, ask the court to appoint one for you. Washington does have diversion programs which might allow you to avoid having a criminal conviction on your record even if you do get prosecuted.

If you do get prosecuted, consult an immigration lawyer before agreeing to any disposition of the case.

Did they say they had you on camera from a PREVIOUS incident or from this one particular incident? Also, how did you get caught, and was any information collected?
