Here are some quick facts about my situation:
1. Parents paid my tuition for a community college ($7,000). Cash, no loan.
2. Agreed that if I lived at home while in school, they would pay for my education
3. There was no written contract
4. I did however move out 1 month prior to graduation because I was being pressured to move out by my dad, who I do not speak with anymore because he is bi-polar, threatening, and is controlling.
Now that I refuse to have any association with dad, he thought it would be clever to have my mom call me and request that we figure out a way to have me begin paying them back for my education. He is only doing this to get under my skin because he is mad that for once in my life I am standing up for myself against him and no longer communicating with him.
I did great in school, received my degree, and am very close to achieving my career goal which directly relates to the degree I attained.
He is not holding up his end of the deal. This is all my dad too, my mom would not have requested that I pay anything back.
Is there any legal obligation for me to pay them back for the money they spent? Or can I please just tell him to pound sand?
