    Default DMV Powers

My question involves a professional license in the state of:California

What power does the DMV actually have? I know that they have administrative rights to suspend a license, but do they have the authority to punitively suspend them as well? I thought that they were only allowed to enforce what has been stipulated by the courts if admin per se laws didn't apply?

Yes, their administrative powers allow the DMV to suspend a license for a number of things, but usually as a result of a court conviction, points assessed as a result of collisions and convictions, and procedural matters not adhered to. Some bureaucrat cannot just suspend a license for grins and giggles.

The most specific sections can be found in CVC 13350 et seq.

What, specifically, happened in your case?
