My question involves vehicle registration or title in the state of: Florida
While driving a friend home, I was stopped at a sobriety checkpoint and asked to produce my license and registration. I did, and the police officer asked several questions about what I was doing out. I revealed that I lived in a nearby college apartment, though the address on my license and registration shows my mom's address. My parents are recently separated, and I consider my mom's home (also in Florida) to be my permanent address and my apartment to be temporary because I am a college student.
Apparently I was very wrong in assuming that my mom's address could be my permanent address, even though I am her dependent and receive the majority of my mail there (bank statements, school forms, etc.). I was issued a 320.02(4) for failing to change my registration address from my mom's current place. Can anyone advise me how the law defines a permanent address and what I should possibly do about this ticket (which is a misdemeanor violation)? Thanks in advance.
BTW: I also received a 322.19(2) for my license having the same address. I was not issued any other tickets.
I am also confused because the ticket has "CRIMINAL VIOLATION" listed in one section but at the bottom says "You were charged with a civil infraction which requires that you comply with one of the following options with the Clerk of County Court..."
