My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: VA
When I was 16 years old I was hospitalized for two days. I am now 25 years old and a debt collector has recently attempting calling me (I have received nothing in written from them as of yet) saying I still owe for this. At this time I was under my parents care as a minor. We always had insurance as kids so I don't understand how this wasn't taken care of back then.
Anyway, the debt collector does not even have my correct name on file. He has my first name along with my brother's last name (diffent than mine b/c we have different fathers). In addition, my mother filed bancruptcy last year to relive herself of some bad investments even though she is the owner of a successful business. My questions are:
1.) As and adult, am I responsible for paying for medical treatment I received as a minor?
2.) Could the collections agency be coming after me because they are obviously unable to collect from my mother?
