My question involves criminal law for the state of: Illinois.
My 5 year old son was molested by a 10 year old neighbor. I called CPS and got conflicting advice. The first person told us not to talk to the family and just call law enforcement, the second one told us just to talk to them. They said I couldn't really report it, because technically they would have to report us, the parents, for leaving him unsupervised. I didn't expect a group of 5-10 year olds playing hide and seek would lead to this!
We will be seeking counseling for our son, but we're confused. Should we mention this to his teacher or principle? She's been worried about his disruptive behavior. Also we're worried that the 10 year old has been molested himself, and want to let someone know. But we don't want a verbal discussion to get ugly with the boys father.
