    Default Caught Shoplifting Five Years Ago

    What is going to hapen now when I apply for a new job...going to show on my beckground check???? This is the only stuped thing I have ever done. The stolen amount was around $ 250 nad I was charged with misdemeanor.
    Please help me...should I admit to my future boss or just pretend that never happend.

    If you were convicted, the conviction will appear on your criminal record.

    You may qualify for expungement depending upon the state you are in.

    Whether or not your prospective employer will detect a conviction depends upon the nature and extent of the background check they perform. If they will detect a conviction, advance disclosure is generally the best way to minimize its impact on the hiring process.
