My question involves criminal law for the state of: NC

Let me start by saying at the time of arrest I was 24 year old female with no priors. From day one up until today I stressed about this!! I only have myself to blame and there is no excuse for my behavior.

In late September of this year I was cited for concealing $216.00 in merchandise (two dresses) at store name. Yes that is right, even concealing the merchandise is stealing! I had made no attempt to exit the store, but the intent is there.

The LP approached me in the middle of the store and I followed him to the back. I signed a no trespass for the store and the mall and then waited on the police. The police wrote me a citation and told me my court date and sent me on my way. I immediately sought legal advise and was quoted $185-$400 to handle my case. I ended up hiring a lawyer for $350.00. After my second court date my lawyer was able to negotiate with the DA for me to do 25 hours of community service at a non-profit agency of my choice and then have them send a letter stating I completed the required hours. As soon as this is completed my case will be dismissed. I just found this out today and I the email mentioned nothing of a court fine, but I'm sure I have one.

As of yet I have not received a civil demand, but I expect that it could take a few more months before it shows up. I have learned my lesson and now I hope others can find advise in my situation. It really is not worth it. My career is now in jeopardy and I am going to have to work twice as hard to earn the trust and respect future employers. If you make this mistake, as everyone is human, don't screw up the opportunity you are given and don't do it again!!! I am thankful for the way my situation ended!!
