My question involves paternity law for the State of: Ohio.
I have a 15 yr old son. Who has a wonderful father that signed the birth certificate, and waiver of paternity. He knew at that time that the child was not his blood. We are no longer together but he has a very active role in his son's life.
Now that my son is old enough to question his parentage, he wanted to know about the other man. Who is worthless. I explained it to him (without any personal feelings included) so he could understand what a great man his father is. Unfortunately, he does not see it this way. He wants to meet his biological father. He wants child support from this man (for what reason I do not know) and wants to have the option of the other last name. He also wants to visit him if he wants.
My questions: What right does this man have? (he has known since day one)
Could my son ask for child support? What steps do we need to take to change the name of his father? (if that is what he wants)
(I understand part of his reaction is anger and confusion, but I would like to know all options to let him know that it is ultimately his decision.)
