At Fault Parking Lot Accident, No Insurance

My question involves a traffic accident in the State of: California. I backed into a parked car at work in their parking lot. This was my 2nd week of a new job. If found out that my husband had not paid the insurance since April and the accident was in August. (Husband and I are separated and I haven't seen or spoke to him in almost a year.) Also car is still in his name. The car a the time was not registered; however, I do have a valid driver's license. Since the accident I have registered and insured the car. The other car's insurance first told me I owned $2K+ and then over $4k. I have now been laid off and insurance is threatening to file a report to suspend my license if I don't pay. I told them I would work with them, but haven't even seen the repair bill. Can I license be suspended?
