My question involves unemployment benefits for the state of: California
The number I am applying for varies considerably depending upon listings in my field.
Is there a minimum number of applications required each week?

I don't know what the limit is in CA. It varies with the state. Weren't you given that information when you applied?
I was on unemployment about 4 years ago or so, and if things are still the same, the minimum number is the amount of boxes that are available to fill in on the form. I remember that on one occasion, I was one box short (did not fill any info for that box) and I lost a week of unemployment for that.
are they even checking anymore give the economy??
I've been on unemployment for a few months now. I was laid off and the company shutdown. Before I was laid off the company brought in representatives from EDD and the guy told us that if we logged in to the EDD website and searched for a job, then you looked for a job that week. I know that sounds lame, but that's what he said. You only have to fill in the back with places you've applied if the box under question 3 is checked. Mine isn't, so I haven't had to list the jobs that I've applied for. Why do some people have to report and others don't?
