Default Can One Spouse Prevent a Divorce from Happening

My question involves a marriage in the state of:Illinois

Can one person prevent a divorce from ever happening if they don't agree or sign the papers? I have an aquaintence that has been in the process for seven years and it still continues. He lives with my sister-in-law and he can't marry her until this is finished. Can this go on forever (his "wife" is crazy). Can't a judge say enough is enough? Thanks!

Default Re: Can One Spouse Prevent a Divorce from Happening

It is very unusual for a divorce to drag on for that long. Without knowing the details, we aren't able to explain what the issues are in any specific case.
