My question involves bankruptcy in the state of: WA
My husband and I both lost our jobs about 3 years ago, and fell behind on credit cards payments. We had several cards, and they went into collections. We've been working again now for about two years, and we were hoping to be able to start making payments again, but our new jobs are much lower paying and we can barely make ends meet as it is. Plus the the amount we owe is now around $25,000 with all the fees and interest, when originally is was around $8,000.
We don't own a house, but we do have a piece of land in another state that we bought a long time ago. We tried to sell it to pay off debts, going as low $10,000 but no one wanted to buy it.
We were really hoping to pay off the debts, and we hate the idea of bankruptcy, but we're starting to feel it may our only choice, before we start getting sued for the collection amounts.
So should we file for bankruptcy? And will we lose the piece of land if we do?
Thank you.
