Default Traffic Tickets After Fta's Now a Civil Matter That I Can't Fight

My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of: California.

I have several tickets (suspended license, & no insurance) that i failed to INITIALLY appear for, that have since been sent to collections. When I contact the collections agency, they tell me that i have no right to trial, to appear in court because it is now a civil matter, and that my only recourse is to pay the fines they tell me i owe (same is if i was actually found guilty)... How do i fight this?

I have not been found guilty of these offenses, so as far as I know, i am not yet liable for any fees or penalties related to said offenses. HOWEVER, if i chose not to fight & just pay the fines, which the collections agency is telling me is my only choice, the DMV will treat payment of thESEs huge fines as a guilty plea & add points to my record.

    HELP!!!!!

40903 VC allows them to try you in absentia.

can i appeal? And doesn't the collections agency have to show me the judgement or whatever that says i was tried & convicted before trying to force me to pay? any help is greatly appreciated. I used to be a court messenger, so i got a cpl tickets in different cities & lost track of them all. one of thes tickets is now at 5k, & i seriously doubt that they tried me in absentia, but just in case, how would i find proof of that?
