Default Property Purchased at a Pawn Turns Out to Be Stolen

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Texas

I purchased something from a pawn shop a few weeks back. I do have a receipt. Turns out the item was stolen and the original owner is asking me to return the property. I have not been contacted by the police. Just the previous owner...who does appear to be the original owner.

Is it as simple as moral vs. legal?

Can I be forced to return the property. I did make a legal purchase. Am I now the rightful owner of the property?

If the property is stolen you are NOT the rightful owner of the property.

I'd contact the pawn shop. The owner needs to file a complaint with the local law enforcement. The pawn system is all set up for his benefit when he does that. If he does, and the law request the item back you need to return it.
