    Default Tenant Tranferred Utilities Out of Name and Still Living in House

    My question involves an eviction in the state of: Michigan

    I'm going through the eviction process and my utilites are set up on a "Landlord" policy with my utility companies. I got notification that the tenant transferred the utilties out of her name effective Thursday and therefore they will revert back into my name.

    My tenant is still living in the house and she's not returning my phone calls and she's lied before so I have major concerns that she will not be out and I will be footing the bill for her utilities.

    I don't think I can legally shut the utilities off and the gas has to be on to avoid frozen pipes. Please help with any advice.

    You are "going through the eviction process" - and you are at what stage of that process? You've served a notice to quit? You've filed an eviction action? You have a judgment of eviction and are awaiting the date you can seek a writ to physically remove her?

    If you served her with a notice to quit, perhaps she intends to vacate as of Thursday.

    This tenant is certainly no dummy. Whether or not she has lied before doesn't matter. You will have to evict her and ask for the utilities monies in addition to the rent she is behind.
