My question involves a driver's license issued by the State of: Washington

I was pulled over by a police officer for allegedly speeding. He checked my record, came back and asked me if I was aware that my license was suspended, to which I replied no. He then proceeded to give me a speeding ticket, and a second ticket. This is how he explained the second yellow ticket: "Since your license is suspended, technically you don't have insurance." And he gave me a ticket for no insurance.
To me it doesn't make much sense. I do have a lawyer working on my case, but he is not saying anything straight forward, and I guess I just want that peace of mind. Any experts on here, what is your advice? Is this a legitimate ticket or not quite?
