Thumbs down We Want Our Roommates to Move Out but They Won't

My question involves a roommate in the State of: WA

I've lived in the house for about 3 years with a couple good friends and a year ago 1 friend moved out on short notice and we had a couple we sorta knew move in. We signed a year lease. Now that year is up and we can't stand the new roommates. They have completely taken over the house with their things and it doesn't feel like home anymore. Myself and the good roommate set up a meeting with the landlord and said that we wanted them to move out and they (the landlord) agreed that they would prefer we stayed and would help us to break the news by getting the ball rolling and sending a email about the lease almost being up.

After we broke the news the unwanted roommates, they sent numerous emails to the landlord and phone calls complaining. After a short conversation with the landlord they said they didn't feel comfortable completely and still thought us the better suited tenants. They said they wanted to check to make sure they couldn't get in trouble by choosing to side with us. A day later we received a email saying that they didn't want to take sides and that they would put us on a month to month lease to give everyone time to perhaps come to an agreement and not be stuck long term. Since then nothing has resolved and they keep bringing things in the house and doing the same things we grieved about.

In a brief encounter the other day with the landlord they stated that they backed out in fear of possibly being sued for talking to us previously about having the roommates move out and siding with us. I didn't get a chance to comment that the lease was up and they should be able to pick anyone they want to stay in the house.

My question is this... is there something that they could be legally held to, or are they just blowing smoke?

Sorry for the long winded story and thanks in advance.

"is there something that they could be legally held to" - who is "they" in this sentence? If your roommate's, what did you have in mind?

The landlord is free to choose to enter into a new lease with you, the other roommates, all of you (if you decide you're masochistic) or none of you.

and if you do not agree with the situation as it is, you can also move elsewhere.
