I was caught shoplifting by LP at Macy's a few days ago. I feel horrible and ashamed of what I did. It was definitely out of my character and I've never done anything like this before.
So here's the story:
I was caught shoplifting work out clothing worth $210 by loss prevention. I had taken off two security tags with a 'hook' that I had bought online. They called the PD, I was subsequently arrested and taken in. I was OR'd, however. My charges are PC 459 and PC 466.
I was wondering what kind of consequences I'm going to be facing. My court date is set two weeks from now... I haven't been able to sleep or eat because I can't stop thinking about how stupid I was and how it's going to affect my whole future.
I've done some research(it's hard to find cases with the same charges) and some people were able to get Pretrial Diversion. Do you think it's likely I'd be able to get on this program?
Also, this may not be my main concern, but want to ask anyway. I've already obtained a visa to work in South Korea. My start date was supposed to be in late November. Would the judge still let me work abroad? I'm worried I wont' be able to get hired anywhere else now that I have this on my record.
Any help would be appreciated.
