My question involves emancipation laws for the State of Washington:
I am trying to help a boy that is 16, almost 17. He wants to get emancipated from his parents, but I don't think he understands the lengths he will have to go to for that to happen. He is in school full time and currently living with his grandparents that would rather him go back to living with his dad.
They are not forcing him to move out but they will not help him either. He is a good kid that comes from a long line of questionable family members - alcoholics and drug addicts.
His parents will not sign over guardianship paper work - they would not even sign paperwork for him to play football this year - they will however sign the Social Security checks that they get because of him though!
What are his options - he does not have the resources it will take to be able to manage his financial affairs on his own - but for his own well being he cannot go back to his parents.
Thank you for any information or advice.
