My question involves a marriage in the state of: Texas
I am already divorced. However, I am having an issue with my ex and a joint credit card account that we had while we were married. We completed our own divorce - I already know - BIG mistake. In the decree my ex stated that there were no joint accounts between us - but there is - 1. Years later, this joint account is affecting my personal credit score. I pulled copies of my credit reports - disputed the account - but obviously it is still on there. I called the credit card company - and advised them that we have BEEN divorced for so many years - and that he has been using the card solely by him. They told me that they cannot remove my name from the account since it is a joint account - but that I could close the account and he would have to call them to re-open an individual account. I asked my ex to take care of this back in June and gave him all the information he needed to do this. To this day, he still has not done anything - he has gone over the limit - and my credit has been affected - again. I faxed a letter today to the credit card company to have the account closed. I need to know if there is ANYTHING I can do legally post divorce to get my name off of this account and have it stop affecting my credit score. Do I need to go back to court to have this joint account placed as his responsibilty so that my name can be taken off?
