Default Investigating Officer Revealing Information to Another Police Officer

My question involves police conduct in the State of: CT
Perhaps a silly question but I may as well ask it.

A friend of the family is the police chief of a city here in CT (former state trooper and he trained FBI agents as well.). Would it be advisable to ask him if he wouldn't mind inquiring on my behalf as to the status of the investigation as they refuse to return my lawyers calls? The family friend most likely wouldn't have a problem asking but I'm just wondering if it would be an appropriate step or just a simple waste of time and not advisable.

    Another quick question:
Police took my cellphone in mid June, I understand the backlog of stuff at crime labs across the country and everything and I do understand that this is a relatively small issue considering the larger picture, so responses like "forget about it" or "it's theirs now" would be something i would not be surprised to see. When would be an appropriate time frame to ask to have my property returned? I suppose if my lawyer inquires they would at least tell him the case is still open and they won't return it which I suppose is some kind of answer.

I would not suggest this approach. Discuss it with your lawyer, who is the person best positioned to advise you.

    Bad idea.

It could easily be misread that your family friend was trying to either influence or compromise the investigation.

Consider how such a request would appear to those folks who don't have a family friend who is a cop.
