My question involves vehicle registration or title in the state of: California
I had gotten a second arraignment court date in L.A. Superior court for a non-proof of insurance that spiraled in to $1200 or so dollars. I didn't even know I had an original court date - it is my fault, I moved but didn't update my address. I however have proof that I did have insurance and so I am definitely holding out for the court date.
They however gave me a court date so far in the future, (about 7 or so months from the date I called and requested one) that I can't seem to get my car registered and new plates.... They had said something that there is nothing I can do about getting my car registered, that and I tried various things through the DMV or something online - I don't know what the problem is but I can't register my vehicle....
So in essence it seems that I am guilty until proven innocent and I still have 4 months until that can even happen and there is a hold on my record? Is this true? Did I miss something here??? I just got 2 tickets today for no plates and non-registration of a vehicle that I bought and the dealer sent in my info, (which is how I found out about all this as my plates never came...). So they have me in a headlock and it doesn't seem just... I can't prove my innocence until I go to court and they made it so far in the future that they hope to put on the pain and that I will give in. I asked for an earlier date at the time and they said they didn't have one.
So in the end, is this true? Should I be able to get my registration taken care of and I have been lied to? Is there some kind of law or code that I can take down to the LA Superior court and say look! This is not right! Furthermore can I feasibly refute the tickets because of this situation?
Thanks,
Brian
