My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: Pennsylvania
Summary:
Just checked my credit score and it has a negative status on it in the form of "closed account" from a electric company back from 2008. The apartment complex that i lived at set up the account under my name and my roommates name for us (bill came with our monthly rent). Half way through the lease i removed my name from the lease and had to pay the fees to do so in order to remove any responsibilities from it (have proof from the apartment complex showing this). This happened 01/2009 but the collection company showed that I owed the bill from 03/2009-06/2009 of service AFTER my name was removed (until 06/2009) and after contacting the person i was living with they had actually moved out from there before those dates (03/09-06/09). Since i removed my name off the lease no one informed me that i needed to contact the electric company to remove my name off of the account, not even sure if that would have been possible. I had not received any correspondence from the debt collection company nor the electric company until two months ago. Once i called them they said they would call the apartment complex and get back to me with thier findings, i did not receive any phone calls until i find out that they put it as "KD" on my credit, dropping it over 100 points.
But the account is only showing closed on my credit report and not theirs. Can this be disputed and taken of my credit report? Should i file the dispute asap? or try to contact the collections company and have them remove/delete the "Closed" account from my credit?
Regards
