Default Ex Hasn't Reported Income in Years

My question involves child support in the State of: MI

We went to a preliminary meeting for child support recommendation today. My ex owns 2 businesses, but is claiming he only makes an income below minimum wage - 11k per year! Trust me, this is total fraud! Anyways, upon looking up the last time we both reported, mine was 2005 (I'm now a full time student and haven't worked since then). His, was over 5 years ago!!! I'm shocked to learn this! THe worker thought he should be reported.

Has anyone else been through this in regards to child support? What can I do?

    Hire a forensic accountant.

Realistically, if he's hiding income that's about all you can do.

Both parents are expected to support their children. You claim that he does not but neither do you if you are a full time student and have not worked for going on 6 years.

WEll, I live on my own with my kids, and pay rent. I do have an income, but it is not taxed. It is enough to live on. Also, I receive child support for my other child, which is not his. So, yes, I do support them. We are not on state-aid.

Also, I have to admit, I have noticed a trend on this site: bash those who post in need, without knowing all the facts. You just assume I don't support my kids b/c I don't work; yet, you don't know me or my situation, nor would you be able to discern such from my original post. Thanks.

...none of which changes the question or the answer

Honestly - you may need to hire a forensic accountant (who likely won't come cheap, and NCP will not be required to reimburse you for that).

Dog - I wasn't talking about you. I appreciate your help. WOuld a forensic accountant be different than my atty looking through the stuff? Or the court?

Owning 2 business doesn't mean that he's stinking filthy rich. Business have expenses... lots of them. His claims may be valid, especially in this economy.

And what job do you have where you have only non-taxable income? What is the current support amount, and what was it calculated based upon? What is your current income?
