Shoplifting Under $3

My question involves criminal law for the state of: NM

I was caught for shoplifting an item that was under three dollars in the state of NM. Does anyone know of a website where I can view the actual NM state laws regarding shoplifting?

Can you go to jail for stealing something under $3? The cop threatened to take me to jail numerous times. In addition, he also said "if it were up to me, I would have a firing squad for all thieves," and "I'm not legally allowed to shoot you but I'd like to". Could these statements be considered threats and held against the officer?

I also bought items at the store, about triple the amount of what I stole. I have the receipt for these items as well.
