    Default J1 to F1 Sponsorship

    Hello,
I am an aupair who wants to change status to be a student. I have a few questions would like to ask for advice.

At the moment, I'm holding J1 visa and it will expire Feb, 2010. After my program ends, I will move from CT to MN. I plan to study MD and want to start with ESL course there. Thus, I want to change my status from J1 to F1.

I ask my guy friend who is native American to be my financial support and I will stay with him for a couple months before moving out. I would like to know if it's possible to get F1?

    Thank you very much

Do you have a two year home country residency requirement on your J1? If so you will have to leave the country and reenter on your F1 (assuming you get one).

You would know better than anybody here if your friend has sufficient assets and resources to file a satisfactory I-134.
