Post Lost Payment Toward Civil Demand

I received a civil demand letter. I have to pay $250 in 5 payments. When I sent the second money order, they did not receive it. I called, and the money order is not cashed still. The amount raised to $475 because they think I failed to send the payment. How can I prove that I sent the money order? I just have the money order's stub and a photocopy.

I would send a copy of what you have along with a letter explaining the situation. As you continue to make your payments, at the end of the day it may be they won't raise an issue as to this $250.00 if they've received all the other payments. It may be that they'll leave it at that rather than trying to sue for $250.00.
