My question involves police conduct in the State of: minnesota
i feel like the cops did not do their jobs when i was at work, and my roommate tells my manager at work the guys upstairs in our duplex had stolen stuff from our house. basically what happened:
i heard from my roommate who had invited our new neighbors in for a few drinks, had stolen some stuff within a matter of minutes, they were the only ones there, and within 5 minutes all my stuff was gone (at the time i we didnt know what was gone). i called the cops but was at work unable to go home.
cops came, gave one a minor, released him, the other who lives upstairs in my duplex went to detox for arguing with the cop drunk so much. i was still not home. my roommate said they took booze and he thinks some of my stuff.
the cop calls me and tells me to leave him a voice mail if i find anything missing when i get home. he then takes the enxt 6 days off of work.
i get home within an hour and $2500+ of stuff of mine is stolen, one of the suspects already set free, the other set free the next day from detox, all while the investigator has been on a week long break and did absolutely nothing about my claims.
i go downtown to ask why they didn't do anything or even call me back y et about my stolen stuff. they tell me its because my roommate told them he "thinks" my stuff was stolen. and that the cop on the case isnt working for 4 more days so i have to just wait. the cop on the phone told me HE thinks only booze was stolen.
my argument is that if it was my stolen property, another tenant can not hold responsibility over telling the cops what was stolen from ME. the cops failed to allow me to have a chance to get home and claim what was stolen before they already released one suspect, and then released the other while the only cop on my case was on a 6 day vacation. how can it be that the case is as good as closed before I even got to make a claim? they are basing this on my roommates word and the cops word, but in the end, it was MY STUFF that was stolen,
what can i do about what i feel is total lack of action from my police department?
