Default Consequences and Penalties for Shoplifting

    1. Does any one know where shoplifting will affect other aspects of life? Will it affect applying to schools, mortgages, credit cards, insurance, etc? Other then maybe jobs, has anyone ran into the situation where this has affected them?

    2. What is the best website where I can check my criminal background check?

    3. I am awaiting a trial and have not been convicted yet, I also have to go on interviews to get a job. What should I do? Should I wait after the trial or go to as many interviews before the trial. As of now, if the employer checks my background will I have a record and what will it say? If they ask on the application if you have ever been convicted can I say no, because my trial is still pending and will they hold that against me or should I just say yes.

    4. Will an employer who checks my records and doesn't hire me, release that information to other companies (my old company I worked for or possibly new ones) or will they just keep that information internal.

    5. After the incident, about how long after does your name appear in the local newspaper? If so how would I go about finding it? When do lawyers start sending letters to your homes regarding if you would like to be represented or not.

If anyone can please help me with these questions I would truly be grateful.

Shoplifting laws, the treatment of criminal records, and access to criminal records vary by state, and by the age of the offender. I doubt that a prospective employer would even know where else you applied, even assuming that they wanted to share information about you (which seems very unlikely). If the newspaper prints your name, it usually happens pretty quickly after the original incident, but in some communities it may appear after a plea or sentencing.

Thank you so much Mr. Know It All for answering my questions, I really appreciate it.

If you could please give me a response of the following questions I would truly be grateful.

    1. Has anyone ever received Pre Trial Intervention for shoplifting. I have heard many talking about it. But every outcome seems like they could not get it, and I was really hoping to get it.

    2. Does any one know where shoplifting will affect other aspects of life? Will it affect applying to schools, mortgages, credit cards, insurance, etc? Other then maybe jobs, has anyone ran into the situation where this has affected them?

The availability of pretrial diversion varies by state and county. In some places it simply isn't available.

A shoplifting conviction can affect future job prospects, and can negatively affect your credit. It's an honesty-related offense, which means it can also come up in other contexts (such as if you're testifying in court).

If you get a job before you are convicted, you would be accurate in stating on the associated application that you have not been convicted.

Thank you so much Aaron and everyone else for your feedback and help. I have really learned alot from this mistake and realized how much you can lose for such a foolish and shameful act. For those of you who are reading this, simply do not do it. There is no such thing as easy money. I have become a better person because of this, but unfortunately the consequences are still yet to be determined. Please pray for me everyone, I will also pray for you. Take care and thank you.

The best thing for you to do is get a job as mentioned earlier. Not just to help your career goal, but also to help you get money so you will not think about doing it again. Most people shoplift because they don't have any money or can not afford the object. Making money will help you relax from doing it again. Those who do it again get more of a harder punishment. They will end up with more regret than the first time. Don'y pray when trouble occurs, always pray so trouble won't occur.

    Civil Recovery ?
I'm reading this as paying prior to a conviction, seems insane.
Paying for something in a Civil Recovery Demand by the accused, is it NOT a most grievous "self authorized admittance of Guilt" and can do no more than further a conviction. Confession by payment in any unsettled case doesn't seem Rational, so I must not understand if a conviction is already implied when they are sent. Guilt by arrest, detainment isn't a law, is it.
Seems monumentally illogical to pay until it's proven it was stolen, then by you and that your actions caused this Recovery event.
If the police are involved generally there's some Case pending. This Civil Demand sounds insane to be paying prior to conviction. I also don't doubt when a case is pending, by paying this bill, people are led to falsely believe forgiveness will be forthcoming and all charges dropped--insinuated and not a gurantee unless in writing.
If it's paid for pre conviction, why pay it unless you plan to plead guilty.

Also is the stuff is paid for by the Demand, can it be retrieved since you paid for it.
