    Default Retail Fraud in Michigan

I am 17 years old, and I got cought stealing jeans from Macy's. The 2 pairs of jeans was worth $88. I already paid my civil demand for $200. This is my 1st offense. What sentence is expected? and will I have to pay any court fines and fees? If so how much?

93 days or $500 plus costs (you can count on paying costs no matter what).
You probably won't get jail time but probation (and that will cost too).

In Michigan, juvenile crimes are dealt with differently than adult. Your 17 and unless you were actually charged as an adult (unlikely) Your case will be handled as a an act of delinquency and handled as such. You didn't say what county so nobody can say what will happen, as all Juvenile Courts are different.

This is not a juvenile case. In Michigan, everybody aged 17 or older is charged as an adult.

Since I am charged as an adult, does that mean the consequences will be more severe? And what do you think my sentese will be?

Hard to say an exact sentence as all prosecutors and judges are different.

    I would expect:
    - Court Costs and Fines

You may be entered into an anti-shoplifting program, a diversion program, community service, or probation, or a combination of these: These are not free!

Yes, it will be on your record. Good luck job hunting, forget retail and anything handling money or credit cards. Good luck with college - you'll have to check into the program you want first and see if they hire thieves.
