Default Asking for Rent After a Tenant Has Moved Out

My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: CALIFORNIA

i moved out of my house (signed the papers/got my deposit back and all that) and then a YEAR later, i received a letter in the mail from my landlord saying she found a check of mine that she had lost in some garbage of her car. the check has been voided since it has been a year, so she wants me to send her a new check for the rent she forgot about and lost.

is she legally even allowed to ask us for money a year after we moved out and all the close out papers have been signed and deposit has been given back to us?

    thanks for your help

Yes, she can ask you for the rent you owe. Why would you think otherwise?
