Default Would Insurance Company Pay for Shopping

I'm just curious. No accident (knock on some wood).

Can an accident victim whose car is totaled make the insurance company pay for the time it takes to purchase a replacement vehicle? I know that I spent hours and hours shopping for my motorcycle and, should someone total it, simply handing me a check for its value wouldn't cut it.
